Success is Dying Empty

Christina Faith is a filmmaker, photojournalist, visual storyteller, and author. Or in her own words, “I’m a creative.”  I had the opportunity to talk with her about being a lion in the world of media…

1) What brought about the passion to do what you do now?

I have always been “a creative.” When I was seven years old I remember writing my first song. As a child, I saw a lot of movies, and in the midst of seeing those movies I would always dissect them. Fast forward, about 3 years ago my first lady said I see you with a camera–I went out and bought a camera!  I know that sounds drastic, but it awakened in me that it was possible to direct what I saw in my head. I started using the members at my church as testers with media that I desired to create. I directed and wrote plays previously so directing in front of the camera came naturally. The more I filmed, the more I desired to impact the culture with media that everyone could watch–with an incredible quality (presentation) and also saturated with the Gospel.

2) How do you plan to Master your arena for the glory of God?

I am currently in seminary. My desire is to obtain a Ph.D focusing on media and theology. I will be getting a Master’s in film after I complete seminary; then, I will enroll in a Ph.D. program. I don’t intend to only create relevant media visually and theologically, but to also develop creative schools that teach media and theology to Kindergarten through graduate students.

3) How can the body be a benefit or in some ways a discouragement to what you do?

The Body is an encouragement because they are hungry for relevant media that feeds them. However, they can also be a discouragement because the Body doesn’t always support the work of believers.

4) Who are some of your creative influences?

Spike Lee
Phil Cooke
Seth Godin
F. Gary Gray
Ron Lucas

5) Whats the vision and purpose behind the My Reflection series?

The Reflection series is a series created to see into the lives of average Christians. So often Christians are looked at as though they have no problems and are perfect. The Reflection series is designed to show the struggles of the believer, but also how they triumph through Christ. It’s meant to be simple, short and non-religious.

6) What would be success or failure in your pursuit?

Success would be dying empty.
Failure would be dying with gifts and talents that never gave God glory.
